Minetto, N.Y. — An Oswego city police officer has been arrested after deputies say he punched his girlfriend during an argument.
On Nov. 14, Ryan Arrastia, 27, hit his girlfriend in the face with his fist, causing a cut to her lip, said Lt. Andrew Bucher, spokesperson for the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident started with a verbal argument. Arrastia then broke his girlfriend’s phone before it turned physical, Bucher said.
Arrastia was charged with third-degree criminal mischief for damaging an iPhone valued at about $1,200, second-degree harassment, third-degree assault and third-degree menacing, Bucher said.
Arrastia was arraigned in Oswego County CAP Court and released that night, Bucher said.
Oswego City Police Chief Phil Cady said Arrastia is currently suspended with pay, but that could change when the internal investigation is completed early in the coming week. His service weapon and ID were confiscated shortly after the incident, the chief said.
