Syracuse, N.Y. - New details have emerged in court papers about the recent shooting of an off-duty Onondaga Community College police officer outside of a Syracuse bar.
The court papers obtained by Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard reveal that officer, Shane Prue, was shot once in the upper right leg/buttocks area. The shooting happened around 1 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9 outside McAvan’s Pub at 1217 W. Fayette St.
For now, doctors decided not to remove the bullet that is lodged in his hip because it would be too dangerous to do so, police said in the court papers.
The court papers also said the woman accused of shooting him forcibly took his gun and shot him.
Police said surveillance video showed a dispute in the pub’s parking lot. Police described the altercation as both verbal and physical before escalating to a shooting.
Sky Bessette, 25, was charged Wednesday with:
- First-degree assault
- First-degree robbery
- First-degree reckless endangerment
- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Criminal possession of a firearm
She was released Thursday from the Justice Center jail on a $150,000 bond, according to Tom Newton, a spokesperson for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.
Bessette is accused of shooting Prue with his registered Glock 43X, a 9mm pistol, according to Kieran Coffey, a spokesperson for Syracuse Police. Coffey and an OCC spokesperson would not say if the gun was the officer’s service weapon.
Prue was transported to Upstate University Hospital where he was treated and released the same day, according to police and a hospital spokesperson.
Roger Mirabito, OCC’s spokesperson, would not comment on Prue’s employment status at OCC.
Another man, Yaseen Shehadeh, was involved in the confrontation that led to the shooting, police said.
Shehadeh was arrested after officers found him in possession of a stolen Taurus 9mm handgun and 7.9 grams of cocaine, according to police and court documents.
Police have not released further details about what led to the argument, how Bessette gained control of the officer’s weapon or if anyone else was involved.
