Centro’s big overhaul: Shorter waits in Syracuse, fewer routes in some suburbs and new on-demand service: Centro is redesigning its bus routes across Onondaga County, adding service in the city and some northern suburbs but consolidating and eliminating trips in eastern towns. The proposal is the system’s first overhaul in more than two decades. Take a look.

What’s Trending

Onondaga County, 91-year-old widow reach agreement for her to leave home: A day after 150 people packed a public hearing in support of a 91-year-old widow being forced to leave the home she has lived in for 60 years to make way for Micron Technology, Onondaga County on Friday announced that it had reached an agreement with Azalia King. County Executive Ryan McMahon said that a deal has been signed and would be approved in December by the Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency.

Four former guards sentenced to prison in the fatal beating of Robert Brooks: Four former corrections officers were sentenced Friday for their roles in the beating death of an inmate in a state prison in Oneida County. The four men ― Nicholas Anzalone, Anthony Farina, Sgt. Michael Mashaw, David Walters ― each previously pleaded guilty to participating in the fatal beating of Robert Brooks Sr. inside Marcy Correctional Facility on Dec. 9, 2024. Here’s a look at all their sentences.

Novelis reopens after latest fire at Oswego aluminum plant: Novelis Inc. said Friday that it had reopened its Oswego County aluminum plant and resumed production a day after a five-alarm fire in a section of its closed hot mill. Novelis and Ford Motor Co., its biggest U.S. customer, issued a joint statement in which they said the facility’s cold mill and heat treatment operations resumed production Friday.

Public has right to know what feds said to get warrant for Cato immigration raid (Editorial): Federal immigration agents raided a Cayuga County nutrition bar factory in September. The agents — heavily armed, some wearing masks — rounded up all kinds of people using a warrant that typically gives the government power to search business records and computers, not people. This is not a paperwork problem. The federal government’s apparent abuse of an administrative warrant to deprive people of their liberty strikes at the heart of constitutional protections we all rely upon to freely conduct our lives.

Looking Ahead

West Genesee’s $78M plan to turn golf course into transportation center headed to a vote: Families in the West Genesee Central School District will soon decide whether to spend $78 million in upgrades to the district’s infrastructure and transportation facilities. If approved in vote next month, the bulk of the money would go toward the construction of a new transportation center on the site of the former Westvale Golf Course, a 117-acre property the district purchased for $4 million in December 2023. Here are the details.
