Vernona, N.Y. - A woman and her two children were taken to the hospital after a driver ran a stop sign and hit her car Saturday in Oneida County, deputies said.
Around 9:16 a.m., deputies went to the intersection of Blackmans Corners and Greenway Lowell Road in the town of Verona for a two-car accident, according to a news release from the Onedia County Sheriff’s Office.
Terry Reed, 58, of Verona, was driving a GMC Sierra north on Reber Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign, causing him to enter Blackmans Corners Road.
Reed’s car hit a Toyota traveling west on Blackmans Corners Road driven by Tara Smith, 36, of Durhamville, and her two children.
Smith’s car went off the road, hitting a stop sign on Greenway Lowell Road before coming to rest in a lawn of nearby house.
Smith and her children were transported to Upstate University Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Reed was issued tickets returnable to Verona Town Court for a later date.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Verona and Westmoreland Fire Department and an AmCare ambulance.
