Wayne and Monroe counties in Upstate New York were among the top 20 hottest real estate markets in the country in September, according to data from the National Association of Realtors.

Wayne was No. 4 nationwide and Monroe was No. 20. The two counties were first and second in New York for market hotness in September.

Three other New York counties ranked in the top 100 in the U.S. for market hotness in September, according to the Realtors association. They included Livingston at 41st, Broome at 72nd and Onondaga at 77th.

The three counties ranked third through fifth in New York.

Most of the hottest real estate markets in New York were located in Upstate in September. The highest-ranking county outside the region was Westchester at No. 26 in the state and No. 552 in the U.S.

For the purposes of this story, everything north of Westchester and Rockland counties is considered Upstate.

The locations were ranked by “hotness score,” a Realtors association metric that takes into account both supply and demand scores in each county. The supply score ranks median days on market in each location against other geographies, while the demand score ranks page views of listings on realtor.com.

The association had hotness data for more than 1,600 counties nationwide in September.
