Belmont, N.Y. — A Southern Tier man has been arrested after police say he fired a shot at a home with children inside.
Robert J. Deahn, 36 of Olean, was taken into custody by State Police on Oct. 30, according to a press release. At 4:16 A.M. that morning, Troopers out of SP Amity responded to a reported domestic dispute on Genesee Street in Belmont.
An investigation determined Deahn showed up to the residence unexpectedly and brandished a knife to the victim before leaving. He then returned and fired one round from a firearm at the residence from the front yard. The home was occupied by multiple people, including two children.
Troopers located Deahn in the nearby town of Friendship during a high-risk traffic stop on West Water Street. He was taken into custody without incident. The 12-gauge shotgun, still warm to the touch according to officials, was located with one spent casing in the chamber. They also found the knife used to menace earlier victims.
Deahn was arrested on multiple charges, including second-degree menacing, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, three counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned and held at Allegany County Jail on $20,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Friendship Town Court on Nov. 12.
