Syracuse, N.Y. ― Syracuse freshman Donnie Freeman underwent surgery on his injured right foot on Friday and the procedure went well, according to an SU official.

The foot injury had sidelined Freeman since early January. He was officially ruled out for the remainder of the season prior to the Orange’s game against Boston College last Saturday. His last game appearance came on Jan. 4 in a loss at Florida State.

The 6-foot-9 forward played in the first 14 games of the season and started 13 of them. He was averaging 13.4 points, second on the team to JJ Starling (17.9) and grabbing 7.9 rebounds per game.

In the last 50 years, only four Syracuse freshmen have had a higher rebounding average than Freeman. They are Carmelo Anthony (10.0), Dale Shackleford (8.8), Derrick Coleman (8.8) and Oshae Brissett (8.8).

Freeman was also making 33% of his 3-pointers (12-for-36).

He had a season-high of 24 points in Syracuse’s win over Albany on Dec. 10. His personal-best of 13 rebounds came in a loss to Texas Tech on Nov. 22 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Syracuse’s record currently stands at 11-14 for the season and 5-9 in the ACC.

The Orange will host North Carolina on Saturday at the JMA Wireless Dome.
