Syracuse, N.Y. ― Two teens were charged after crashing a stolen car on Interstate 81 in Syracuse on Saturday and leading police on a foot chase, police said.
During the arrests, force was used on one of the teens, said Sgt. Thomas Blake, a spokesperson for Syracuse police. As required by police department policy, the use of force is under review, he said.
Saturday afternoon, police saw a stolen Hyundai occupied by two teens crash into the median of I-81 in Syracuse, Blake said.
The two teens, a 15-year-old and 16-year-old, got out of the car and ran off the highway, he said. Officers chased the teens on foot, he said.
One of the teens was quickly taken into custody, while the other continued down to Oakwood Avenue near Dr. King Elementary School, Blake said.
As police caught up to the teen, he resisted arrest and force was used to take him down to the ground and handcuff him, Blake said.
Both teens were evaluated by an ambulance on scene and cleared, Blake said.
The teens were charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and one teen was charged with resisting arrest.
