The Ruler is coming back to Central New York.
Rap legend Slick Rick will perform at the Westcott Theater in Syracuse on Friday, Dec. 12. Doors open at 8 p.m.; the concert will begin at 9.
Tickets are on sale at thewestcotttheater.com. Prices are $40 in advance and $50 on the day of the show; VIP and meet-and-greet packages are also available.
Slick Rick, whose real name is Ricky Martin Lloyd Walters, is a rapper and hip-hop pioneer with songs like “Children’s Story,” “The Show,” “The Ruler’s Back” and “La-Di-Da-Di” (as Ricky D with Doug E. Fresh and the Get Fresh crew). He received a Grammys Lifetime Achievement Award and remains an icon with his British accent, nasally voice, and colorful fashion including his signature eye patch.
He was also named one of the top 50 lyricists of all time by The Source and is known as “the most sampled hip-hop artist in history.” His music and lyrics have been used by big names like Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Beastie Boys, Miley Cyrus, Kanye West, Nas, TLC, Montell Jordan, Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z.
Slick Rick last visited Syracuse to celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop with a 2023 concert at the New York State Fair. The 60-year-old rapper was born in London, but moved to New York at a young age and began performing in the 1980s.
