Syracuse, N.Y. —The Syracuse University women’s basketball team has added a center to round out its 2025-26 roster.

Izoje Uche, listed at six-foot-three, is originally from Nigeria but spent the past few years playing and studying in Japan.

Uche played for the Chanson V-Magic in the Women’s Japan Basketball League, where she averaged 14.4 points, 9.9 rebounds and just under two blocks (1.7) per game.

Uche was named a two-time All-Star and earned a Rookie of the Year award.

“We are thrilled that we were able to get Izoje Uche to be a part of our Orange family! Get ready for a high-flying athlete that runs the floor, catches the ball at the rim and might just dunk!” SU head coach Felisha Legette-Jack said in a press release.

Uche provides Syracuse needed front court presence following the graduation of starting center Izabel Varejão and forward Kyra Wood.

Syracuse finished 12-18 last season in Legette-Jack’s third season as head coach.
