Syracuse, N.Y. — Interested in buying a vacant lot from the city of Syracuse?

A new online search tool makes it easier to find out what’s available and start the process of making an offer.

Mayor Ben Walsh on Wednesday announced the launch of the City-Owned Property Search at syr.gov/city-owned-property. The page includes an interactive map that allows the user to find properties that are available by neighborhood, via an address search or by zooming in on an area of the map.

The database currently includes 167 properties, all vacant land, that could be purchased. It includes residential and commercial sites.

The map does not include properties that are owned and listed by the Greater Syracuse Land Bank, an independent agency that takes ownership of many properties the city seizes for unpaid taxes.

Walsh said the new tool simplifies the process for people interested in buying city-owned lots. Information about each property includes a direct link to an online application for making a purchase offer.

City planning staff and an interdepartmental review committee reviews applications. All sales must receive Syracuse Common Council approval.
