A runaway pig named “Breakfast” dished out chaos last week in a Buffalo neighborhood after escaping the backyard of his city home.

According to 7 News WKBW, Hamlin Park Historic District resident Renita Shadwick was outside the afternoon of Nov. 5 when the porky perpetrator charged at her, knocking her down.

Her husband, Jerome, watched from their window, shouting, “What was that?” before realizing it was a pig. “Never, never seen a pig,” he said in an interview.

Renita said Breakfast was biting at her hair and shaking her like a bag of microwave popcorn. She managed to protect her face with her arm.

“This is ridiculous. This is a pig on Victor Place, in the city of Buffalo? Where did this come from?” she said.

A Buffalo police officer, revealed to be the pig’s owner, arrived with an animal control officer and tried to catch the pig as it dashed through the streets, narrowly evading capture. Breakfast was eventually apprehended and taken home by the officer.

Neighbor Angie Davis-Leveritte said the incident may sound funny, but a loose pig is just as dangerous as a loose dog.

Council member Zeneta Everhart said she was relieved Renita’s injuries were not serious. She noted that Buffalo’s city charter generally forbids the ownership of livestock except under very limited circumstances.

Everhart suggested that incidents like Breakfast’s escape might prompt the city to revisit those rules, citing both safety concerns for residents and the welfare of animals raised in urban environments.
