Marcy, N.Y. - A Central New York prison chaplain fatally shot himself Friday morning at the Marcy Correctional Facility, State Police said.

Abdalla Hadian, 55, of Syracuse, died around 8:05 a.m. after he entered the administration building at the facility and shot himself with a gun he brought, according to a news release from State Police.

Some staff members at the facility witnessed the incident, according to a Facebook post from the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.

Hadian was pronounced dead at the facility, troopers said.

Hadian was an imam and employed by the NY prison system, according to state records.

He had recently returned to work following a medical leave, troopers said.

A handwritten note was found at the scene and is being translated as part of the ongoing investigation, police said.

The body was taken to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office for examination.
