Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown created a bit of a stir on Sunday when he did the “Trump dance” after scoring a touchdown against the Washington Commanders – while President Donald Trump was at the game.

On Wednesday morning, St. Brown apologized on “The St. Brown Podcast,” which he co-hosts with his brother, Equanimeous, a former NFL wide receiver.

“First of all, if I offended anyone, I do apologize. I did not mean to offend anyone. It was just, we’re having fun. If any president was at that game, if they had a dance, I would have done it. It had nothing to do with who the president was,” Amon-Ra said.

“Even after the game, I found out, someone told me that was the first game that a president has been to in over 40 years, the first regular season game, which is crazy. We were just having fun, doing the dance, nothing more, nothing less.”

According to Fox News, Sunday’s Lions-Commanders game in Washington was the first time a sitting president had attended a regular season NFL game since Jimmy Carter in 1978. Trump was booed by the crowd when he was introduced.

St. Brown’s dance drew both positive and negative reactions.

On Truth Social, the president’s social media platform, he reposted someone referring to the receiver as “Amon-Ra St Trump.”

Meanwhile, Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jourdan Lewis was critical of St. Brown on the social media site X, Fox News reports. In the since-deleted post, Lewis said “You do that in one of the blackest cities in America?”

Lewis and St. Brown have a history, though. After the Lions blew out the Cowboys 47-9 last season, Lewis – then with Dallas – responded to one of St. Brown’s Instagram posts with a direct message calling him “a bitch,” the New York Post reported. St. Brown then shared that message to his Instagram followers, which Lewis didn’t appreciate, saying “That was between me and him. He decided to show the world.”
