Meet syracuse.com’s 2024-25 All-CNY Division II boys hockey team

Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse.com‘s All-CNY Division II hockey team features all-stars who shone during the 2024-25 season.

There are three player of the year finalists: Gavin Aceto of Whitesboro, Danny Angelina of Skaneateles and Luke Bobbett of Skaneateles.

The winner will be revealed at syracuse.com‘s | The Post Standard’s annual All-CNY Sports Awards presented by Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists. The show begins at 6 p.m., Tuesday, June 24, 2025, inside the Liverpool High School Auditorium. More details can be found here.

Class: Junior

Position: Left wing

What’s next for you? Lacrosse and travel hockey

Who inspires you? My parents, because they have always pushed me to the best of myself and they continue to push me.

What is your favorite memory from this season? The locker room because it’s always fun and a vibe in there with the boys.

What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “A bruise on the leg is a hell of a long way from the heart.”

If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? Shoresy. Great locker room guy, gritty player.

Name: Danny Angelina

School: Skaneateles

Class: Senior

Position: Goalie

What’s next for you: Junior hockey

Who inspires you? My mother, because her dedication and drive for everything she does have helped me strive to be like that every day I’m on the ice.

What is your favorite memory from this season? Three-peating. All the work I’ve put in and my dedication to this sport paid off states weekend because I was confident enough to play at my best.

What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “A team isn’t a bunch of kids out to win. A team is something you belong to, something you feel, something you have to earn.” — Gordon Bombay, “Mighty Ducks.” This is my favorite quote from my favorite sports movie because I am so blessed to have been able to be a part of my team this season and be able to play with them for the maximum amount of time I could.

If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? Yukon Cornelius on defense because of his shot-blocking potential.

Name: Luke Bobbett

School: Skaneateles

Class: Sophomore

Position: Forward

What’s next for you? Junior year in high school

Who inspires you? My Dad. He has been my coach my whole life.

What is your favorite memory from this season? Winning the sectional championship in overtime. It was our closest game of the season and winning it in overtime made the sectional championship even better.

What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? "Great moments come from great opportunities." — “Miracle.” It is my favorite movie and has been my whole childhood.

If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? Charlie Conway from “The Mighty Ducks.” Always liked the Mighty Ducks movies and he is my favorite actor in the movies.

What’s next for you? Geneseo

Who inspires you? My older brother. I was in his shadow all my life, playing with him and looking up to him.

What is your favorite memory from this season? Beating our rival, New Hartford, two times.

What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “Who we playin’ ‘rammer? Sweden?” — “Miracle on Ice”

What’s next for you? Looking at multiple opportunities

Who inspires you? My dad, because he’s always been the person I’ve looked up to since I was little, on and off the ice.

What is your favorite memory from this season? Breaking the Section III single-season save record

What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” I like this quote because you should never back down from an opportunity.

If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? Charlie Conway, because he put his team first as the captain for his team.

School: Skaneateles

Class: Senior

Position: Forward (right wing)

What’s next for you? West Point for lacrosse

Who inspires you? My older brother. He has shown me how hard I have to work for my goals.

What is your favorite memory from this season? Winning my second state championship in a row. It is a surreal feeling to end my hockey career on.

What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? Not from a movie, but it is “Life’s not fair. Deal with it.” — Coach Mitch Major. This is my favorite quote because it reminds me that life isn’t always going to go your way, so you have to work around it.

If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? The Flash. It would make everything go super fast.

Name: Cole Palmer

School: Skaneateles

Class: Senior

Position: Forward

What’s next for you? I will be studying biology at Boston College.

Who inspires you? My friends and family, because they push me to be the best every day in the sport of hockey.

What is your favorite memory from this season? Definitely winning the state championship. It has been super fun to be on such a good team with a great group of coaches and teammates throughout these four years. I wouldn’t have wanted it to end any other way than with a state championship. It was just a great feeling knowing that the goal we set out for at the beginning of the season was accomplished.

What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “Great moments are born from great opportunity.” — “The Miracle.” Cliche, maybe, but still in my opinion the greatest quote of all time from the greatest sports movie of all time.

If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? Air Bud. He can play any sport imaginable and dominate.

What’s next for you? College

Who inspires you? My dad. He’s pushed me harder than anyone I know and has made me develop into the player I am today.

What is your favorite memory from this season? Winning the state championship for the third time in a row. Just amazing to be part of all three of those teams and be the first team to ever three-peat in NYS hockey.

What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “Great moments are born from great opportunities.” — Herb Brooks. This just hits hard because the three years we won the state championship, we embodied this.

If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? The Hanson Brothers. Who wouldn’t want those guys on the same team as you gooning it up?

What’s next for you? Go to school at Penn State

Who inspires you? My parents. They’ve pushed me to become the best player I could possibly be.

What is your favorite memory from this season? Winning the state championship for the third time. It was all we wanted all season and finally getting that was the best feeling.

What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “A bruise on the leg is a hell of a long way from the heart.” — Herb Brooks. Just explains the type of culture you need in the locker room to be successful.

If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? Happy Gilmore. I love golfing and he’d be a great locker room guy.

What’s next for you? Staying on the ice so I can get ready for next season.

Who inspires you? My brother, because he has always been there to help me get better.

What is your favorite memory from this season? Getting our first two points by beating Clinton on a Friday night (away).

What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “Tonight, we skate with them. Tonight, we stay with them. And we shut them down because we can! Tonight, we are the greatest hockey team in the world.” — Herb Brooks (“Miracle”). This shows that any team can accomplish anything when they work hard and never quit.

If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? Ratatouille because he’s good at cooking.

Who inspires you? My dad because he always supports me.

What is your favorite memory from this season? Sectional OT winner in Oswego.

What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? Great moments are born from great opportunities." — Herb Brooks. Because the U.S. was not supposed to win that game, but they showed that you can beat anyone.

Who inspires you to coach? All my experiences in this awesome town of Skaneateles have inspired me to coach. A great community! Hockey’s been a huge part of my family for years.

What is your favorite sports memory from this season? Bad cop, bad cop speech after the first period of the sectional final.

If you could have any historical figure on your team, who would it be? Easy… Jesus. We’d be on the PowerPray the entire game :-).
