What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard alone.” — “Miracle On Ice.” It truly shows how if you work harder than the guy next to you, you’re bound to succeed more than them, even if they have more talent or are more naturally gifted than you. No matter what happens, as long as you work hard and put your mind to something, you will always get the outcome you’re looking for.
If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? I would have the Hanson Brothers from the movie “Slapshot” on my team because I feel like every team needs a good enforcer line to give a team momentum or set the tone in a big game.
Coach of the year

Name: Frank Colabufo
School: West Genesee
Years coaching: 31 years as West Genesee head coach, 37 total years.
Who inspires you to coach? My players inspire me to keep coaching. Every year is a new group, but we start every training camp with the same high expectations and try to give the players the best opportunity to achieve them.
What is your favorite sports memory from this season? This group made a lot of great memories, taking us all the way to the state final. Personally, my favorite memory was watching our kids defend their Section III Championship in the War Memorial against an outstanding RFA team in a game that didn’t disappoint. Both teams left everything on the ice. I am grateful to have been a part of it.
If you could have any historical figure on your team, who would it be? I would want Abraham Lincoln on our team for his ability to communicate, inspire, lead with humility and help shape our team’s culture.
What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “You don’t have enough talent to win on talent alone.” — Coach Herb Brooks (Kurt Russell) in the movie, “Miracle.” Sustaining success requires much more than talent. It’s a message our players have embraced and passed on from one team to the next.
