Man shot at Nedrow home multiple times with ghost gun, deputies say

Nedrow, N.Y. — A man was arrested Monday after deputies say he fired shots at a home in Nedrow on two occasions with a ghost gun.

Shortly after midnight Sunday, a 911 caller reported someone fired a gun toward a home in the 200 block of West Roswell Avenue, according to Thomas Newton, a spokesperson for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.

When deputies arrived, the shooter had fled the scene.

Around 2 p.m. Monday, deputies were called to the same block for another report of shots being fired, Newton said.

Deputies arrived to find a vehicle matching the suspect description from the previous night’s incident, Newton said. Deputies pulled the vehicle over and identified the driver as Steven Homer, 39, of Onondaga.

Newton said Homer lives in the 200 block of West Roswell Avenue.

Deputies recovered a handgun that was ghost gun, Newton said. A ghost gun is a weapon that lacks serial numbers, which makes them virtually untraceable by law enforcement.

Deputies determined Homer was the person responsible for both shots-fired incidents, Newton said. No injuries were reported, he said.

Homer was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon for possessing a loaded firearm, second-degree criminal use of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment, all felonies.

He was also charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon for possessing of a ghost gun and fourth-degree criminal mischief, all misdemeanors.

Homer is currently being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center where he is awaiting arraignment.
