Nedrow, N.Y. ― A man has taken a plea deal that will send him to prison for 10 years for shooting at a 17-year-old boy in Nedrow.
Steven Homer, 39, pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree attempted murder.
Homer was arrested after firing a gun on two separate days in Nedrow in June.
On June 28, Homer aimed a handgun at the boy’s chest using a laser sight. He fired the gun but the teen was not injured, prosecutor Jed Hudson said. He said the gun may have malfunctioned.
Homer did not know the teen and the shooting was a random act of violence, Hudson said.
On June 30, Homer fired a gun near his parents’ home on the 200 block of West Roswell Avenue while Homer’s parents and sister were home, according to an indictment.
Deputies recovered a handgun that was a ghost gun, Tom Newton, a spokesperson for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, said at the time. A ghost gun is a weapon that lacks serial numbers, which makes it virtually untraceable by law enforcement.
Homer is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 22.
