Syracuse, N.Y. - IKEA plans to open its store at Destiny USA at 10 a.m. Nov. 21.

There’s been a lot of anticipation about an opening date since IKEA announced in July it plans to open in Syracuse.

The store will be in the former At Home store, which is more than 80,000 square feet.

The location will be the third IKEA in New York, joining Long Island and Brooklyn.

Although this IKEA will be smaller than the massive stand-alone stores near Toronto, Boston and New York City, customers can still order items from a dozen showrooms displaying products.

The mini-IKEA is one of about 50 IKEA has opened to make the products more accessible to more people.

The Syracuse location won’t have all the warehouse space and large items customers can take off the shelves and take home. And the restaurant will be smaller.

The store also will have an As-Is department that sells discontinued items and “gently used” products. And it will have a central planning area for designing kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms.

This IKEA will take up the entire space vacated last year by At Home, about 88,000 square feet, although the store’s shopping area will be 70,000 square feet.

That’s about four times smaller than stores in Brooklyn and Paramus, the kind that can have as many as 100 product showrooms.

The grand opening will begin at 9:45 a.m. Nov. 21, and customers can begin lining up at 7 a.m.

Regular store hours will be Monday to Thursday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 22 a.m. to 6 p.m.
