How to watch ‘Wicked’ broadcast premiere for free
Viewers without cable can watch “Wicked” on DIRECTV or Fubo. Both streaming services include live access to NBC and 5-day free trials, allowing viewers to watch at no cost.
The broadcast is part of a larger promotional push for “Wicked: For Good,” directed by Jon M. Chu, which is slated for release on Nov. 21.
Thanks to an agreement between NBCUniversal and Amazon, the film will be available on the network, even as it continues to stream on Prime Video.
For those interested in exploring the “Wicked” universe further, NBC aired a special musical event titled “Wicked: One Wonderful Night” earlier this month, which is now available on Peacock.
What are the differences between the streaming services?
DIRECTV - Watch live TV from major broadcast and popular cable networks. Enjoy local and national live sports, breaking news and must-see shows the moment they air. Fubo - Fubo offers one of the widest selections of channels among live TV streaming services. More than 220 channels, including all the sports and entertainment you love, plus sports add-ons for those niche networks you rely on, and it all starts with a 5-day free trial and $30 off the first month of service.
What is ‘Wicked’ about?
Directed by Jon M. Chu, “Wicked” is a cinematic adaptation of the Broadway musical that explores the untold story of the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), and her unlikely friendship with Glinda (Ariana Grande). Set before the events of “The Wizard of Oz,” it shows their time at Shiz University, their run-ins with the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum), and how their paths ultimately diverge.
Alongside Erivo and Grande, the cast includes Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Peter Dinklage and more. The film has earned more than $727 million worldwide and received 10 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and acting nods for both Erivo and Grande.
