House bill would rename Syracuse post office in honor of slain police officer: Thirty-five years after Wallie Howard Jr. was shot and killed during an undercover drug bust, Rep. John Mannion wants to help keep the Syracuse police officer’s name remembered. Mannion plans to introduce a bill Wednesday that would name the only remaining post office on Syracuse’s South Side as the Officer Wallie J. Howard Post Office Building.

County approves Micron project, giving the chipmaking complex its biggest boost yet: The Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency unanimously voted Tuesday to give Micron the go-ahead to start building a massive chipmaking complex in the town of Clay once the company obtains federal approval and necessary permits. It’s the project’s biggest step yet. “Now we have everything we need to get the process started,” said Pat Hogan, chairman of the agency board.

Army selects Fort Drum as possible site for new nuclear plant: The Army has chosen Fort Drum in Jefferson County as one of nine bases to be evaluated for an advanced small-scale nuclear power plant, Army officials announced Tuesday. The Army’s plan is to have commercial companies build nuclear plants capable of producing up to 20 megawatts to provide power at military installations. A traditional nuclear plant, by contrast, generates about 500 to 1,300 megawatts. State and national lawmakers from Upstate New York have lobbied for at least a year for Fort Drum’s selection.

Federal judge dismisses lawsuit from family of Jamesville teen shot, killed by police: A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit that claimed a trooper wrongfully shot and killed a Jamesville teenager four years ago. U.S. District Judge Mae D’Agostino ruled that the trooper, Corey Fike, acted within the law when he was one of several police officers who shot Judson Albahm in March 2021.
