Casey Rogers, a former three-sport standout at Westhill, is heading back to his lacrosse roots.
After competing for roster spots with the New York Giants and Buffalo Bills for almost a year, Rogers is entering the professional lacrosse world with the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League.
The Wings announced on Friday that Rogers signed a three-year deal as part of the group of free agents brought on for the upcoming season.
Rogers participated in the Bills’ training camp and preseason workouts before being cut in September.
The 6-foot-5, 300-pound Syracuse native signed with the Giants in 2024 as an undrafted free agent. Rogers spent some time with New York’s practice squad and active roster, but was ultimately waived in May of this year.
Casey is the son of Lelan Rogers, a former assistant lacrosse coach at Syracuse and the current SUNY Cortland men’s lacrosse head coach.
Rogers, who also played ice hockey, graduated from Westhill in 2017. He went on to attend Avon Old Farms prep school in 2018. Rogers was initially set to compete for the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team, but he de-committed and went on to play college football for Nebraska and Oregon between 2018 and 2023.
Now, Rogers will transition to box lacrosse and be part of the Wings’ defensive core, as he brings a “unique athletic background and physical presence to the roster,” the team stated in a release.
“Adding Casey Rogers, a former NFL player and five-star lacrosse recruit, brings a unique dynamic to our defense, and we’re eager to see him at his first camp,” Wings general manager Paul Day said.
Philadelphia went 7-11 last season and has a 43-61 record since its first campaign in 2019.
The Wings open their 2025 season at home on Dec. 13 against the Colorado Mammoth.
