Durhamville, N.Y. — The former treasurer of the Durhamville Fire Department was sentenced Friday to one to three years in state prison for stealing $92,000 from the volunteer department over seven years, officials said.
Kimberly Simchik, 62, of Durhamville, was also ordered to pay $92,000 in restitution, according to a news release from the state Comptroller’s Office and the State Police.
Investigators said Simchik used the department’s debit card and checks for personal expenses, including plane tickets, spa and nail salon visits, a movie channel subscription and payments at local casinos.
She also deposited checks meant for the department into her personal bank account, officials said.
The theft was discovered when a fire department member tried to make a deposit but was told the account had been closed because of a negative balance, officials said.
Simchik was arrested in November 2024 on charges of larceny and corrupting the government. She pleaded guilty in September to stealing more than $90,000 from the department.
The investigation was conducted by the State Police and the comptroller’s office. She was sentenced in Oneida County Court by Judge Michael R. Nolan.
