Syracuse, N.Y. — More than 30 family members and friends held a vigil Thursday night for Alexis Sellin, a 32-year-old Syracuse woman found dead in an apartment Wednesday.

Yellow tape and police cruisers still surrounded the building at 3101 Burnet Ave. Thursday when mourners carried red, black and purple balloons — some of Sellin’s favorite colors — to a nearby sidewalk.

People put the balloons by pictures of Sellin and lit candles that spelled “Rest Up”.

The bodies of Sellin and Jamie Crawford, 46, were found in an apartment inside the building. Police say both appeared to have been shot, (A family member had said Crawford’s first name is Jami.)

The deaths are being investigated as murders, said Chief Assistant District Attorney Shaun Chase. A child, about 5 or 6 years old, was found alive inside the apartment, he said.

A “routine visitor” found the bodies and the child, he said. The man and woman are believed to have been shot well before their bodies were found.

A police officer who arrived at the apartment when the call came in said the shooting “appears to have occurred a while ago,” according to dispatches from the Onondaga County 911 Center.
