Syracuse, N.Y. — Patrick Beilein is back coaching on the college sidelines.
Beilein has been named the new men’s basketball head coach at Mohawk Valley Community College. He most recently coached the boys team at Baldwinsville, compiling an overall 20-23 mark in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. He then stepped down, citing “family responsibilities.”
Beilein, once a rising star in the profession, joined the Bees after his abrupt departure from Division I Niagara in the fall of 2019.
Beilein had been in that post for just a few months before resigning. His only public explanation for that move was that it was because of “personal reasons.”
Beilein, a former standout player at West Virginia, is the son of John Beilein, who coached at Michigan and with Cleveland of the NBA.
Patrick Beilein’s coaching career includes leading Le Moyne College to multiple NCAA D-II tournament appearances and earning Northeast-10 Conference coach of the year honors in both 2017 and 2018. He’s also worked as player development coach for the Utah Jazz and was head coach at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
MVCC finished 29-1 last season en route to capturing its first-ever NJCAA national championship.
