Lee, N.Y. — A driver died Sunday night when a vehicle went off a rural, two-lane road in Oneida County and collided with a tree, deputies said.
Around 8:40 p.m., deputies were called to Steadman Road in the town of Lee after an iPhone crash notification reported a possible accident, according to an Oneida County Sheriff’s Office news release on Monday.
The vehicle was heading south on Steadman Road when the vehicle left the eastern shoulder of the road and hit the tree. The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.
The victim’s name has not been released as of Monday.
Steadman Road was closed between Lee Center Taberg and Streun roads for several hours during the investigation but has since reopened. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
