Verona, N.Y. - One person died and another was hospitalized when a car went off a road and hit a tree Tuesday night in Oneida County, deputies said.
The crash happened around 9:50 p.m. on Blackmans Corners Road in the town of Verona, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.
The vehicle was traveling northwest on the two-lane road when the driver lost control, the vehicle went off the road and hit a tree, deputies said.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was transported to Wynn Hospital in Utica with serious injuries, they said.
The sheriff’s office did not release the name of the driver or passenger.
The road was closed Tuesday night but has reopened.
The accident is still under investigation, deputies said.
