Steve Angeli opens up on sudden end to his season and his injury rehab: Syracuse quarterback Steve Angeli is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon, walking without any assistance except for a heavy protective boot on his lower-left leg. He’s optimistic about joining team workouts in the spring, but still feels the pain of missing out on a breakout season as SU lost six consecutive games without him. “As soon as it happened, I cried a little bit, I’ll be honest. It was just because I know what road it’s on,” he said in one of his first interviews since the injury. “Immediately, I just felt like I was leaving my team, leaving my brothers. That was the worst part about it.”

Oswego County aluminum plant site of another fire: More than 80 firefighters from 20 departments battled a large five-alarm fire for hours Thursday at the Novelis aluminum plant in Oswego County. Crews fought the blaze from inside the plant’s hot mill section and also extended at least four ladder trucks high into the air to spray water on the roof. The fire could deal a blow to efforts to get the plant running again after an earlier fire in September.

Community turns out to fight eviction of 91-year-old for Micron project: More than 150 people attended a public hearing Thursday at the Clay Town Hall today to fight back against Onondaga County’s efforts to evict a 91-year-old widow from her home to make way for Micron Technology. The Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency is trying to use eminent domain to evict Azalia King from the house on Caughdenoy Road, where the agency promised in writing she could spend the rest of her life. More than 30 people spoke, all but one of them in support of letting King stay in her home. Most of the speakers blasted the county’s move as cruel and unnecessary.

See dramatic video of CNY teens on prom night helping save family: Four Central New York teens were honored by the Red Cross Thursday for helping save a family in the spring by alerting them that their home was on fire. When the teens, driving from their junior prom, saw flames, they at first thought it was a campfire. As they got closer, though, they saw a house was on fire. The teens sprinted to the house, banged on doors and helped get the family out. Watch the dramatic video.

Is the Syracuse men’s basketball team ready for the competition in Vegas? The Syracuse Orange’s convincing early season wins had fans and analysts alike thinking this young, athletic team might be ready for prime time -- until Tuesday’s uncomfortably close 78-73 victory over Monmouth. Now, with a brutal gauntlet next week in the Players Era Festival in Las Vegas – games against top-5 Houston, perennial powerhouse Kansas, and a third high-major opponent to be determined – the question becomes much more urgent: Is Syracuse actually ready for this massive step up in competition?
