Morrisville, N.Y. — Classes resumed Tuesday at SUNY Morrisville, a day after a 20-year-old man was shot in the neck inside a campus dormitory, according to school officials.
Classes are not cancelled today, according to Franci Valenzano, the college’s assistant director of news and spokesperson. State Police Monday night had said classes would be cancelled Tuesday.
The campus was placed on lockdown shortly after the shooting at about 3:15 p.m., with students and staff ordered to shelter in place. The order was lifted around 8 p.m. for most of the campus, although residents of Onondaga Hall and South Hall— where the shooting occurred — were asked to remain inside until police finished processing the scene.
Police from multiple agencies responded to the scene, searching campus buildings and surrounding areas in the small village of about 1,500 people.
The man shot, who was not a student at the college, was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. Troopers said he is expected to live.
The shooting appeared to be a “single, targeted event,” Maj. Kevin Reilly, commander of State Police Troop D based in Oneida said Monday night. He declined to identify any suspects or release further details about what led to the shooting.
No arrests have been made at this time, Trooper Jennifer Jiron, a spokesperson for state police, said Tuesday morning.
State Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to call 315-366-2311.
