“What are we doing?”

That was the question Josh Allen was seen asking backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky after the Buffalo Bills were stopped on a fourth-and-1 delayed handoff to James Cook.

It was just one of many failed series for Allen and the Bills’ offense on Thursday. After opening the game with a touchdown drive, Buffalo did not score another touchdown in the matchup.

Post-game, Allen was asked about his comments on the sideline.

“Just frustration on my part,” Allen said. “In a situation like that, probably should have banged a timeout. We got the play in late. (We) didn’t give ourselves a chance there.”

Part of the problem was the Bills running into an absolute buzzsaw in the Houston Texans. Houston entered the game with the league’s No. 1 defense and looked the part. They sacked Josh Allen eight times and hit him 12 times in their 23-19 win. Making matters worse for Buffalo was that Houston did it without blitzing for the most part. The Texans’ defensive front just manhandled Buffalo’s offensive line. Dion Dawkins and Spencer Brown, two of the best offensive tackles in the league, were beaten regularly. The same could be said for O’Cyrus Torrence, Connor McGovern and David Edwards. The failure of the offensive line also led to Allen making some poor decisions along the way.

Much of Thursday’s loss can be pinned on Allen and the offensive line, but offensive coordinator Joe Brady needs to take a lot of heat for the performance as well. Nate Tice of Yahoo Sports pointed out the predictability of Brady’s offense in-game.

With Allen’s frustration reaching a boiling point, Brady needs to figure out exactly what the Bills offense is doing. If he doesn’t, the 2025 season will be another lost year in Allen’s prime.
