Syracuse, N.Y. — Two months ago, the body of a woman was found decomposing in a vacant home on Syracuse’s South Side.

Police still don’t know who she is.

Information about the mystery woman was entered earlier this month into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, a federal database of missing people and unidentified people’s remains cases.

She was assigned Case No. 136033.

Syracuse police never notified the public that a body had been found.

Kieran Coffey, a police department spokesperson, confirmed this week to syracuse.com | The Post-Standard that the woman’s body was found at about 8:40 am. on Nov. 20 in the 200 block of Furman Street.

The woman, who is Black, was found dead in a vacant property by a property manager, according to the federal database. She was in a “moderate state” of decomposition with signs of animal predation.

The woman was found wearing only socks, according to the federal database. Several other items of clothing were found near her, including a shirt, sweatshirt, underwear, pants and a pair of blue Skechers sneakers.

The Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office was not able to determine a cause of death, Coffey said. It’s not clear whether there may have been foul pay, he added.

Syracuse police ask anyone with information about the case to call them at 315-442-5222.
