Syracuse, N.Y. — Four Section III boys and girls soccer teams reached the peak of high school athletics over the weekend.

A few won in thrillers, some dominated from start to finish and one even shared the title with their opponent. But at the end of the day, all four teams can call themselves the best in the state.

Westhill steamrolled Section VI’s Lafayette International 6-0 on Saturday afternoon at Middletown High School to claim the Class B boys soccer state title. It was the program’s third state championship.

Marcellus girls soccer shut out Section V’s Livonia in the Class B state final on Sunday at Cortland High School to capture its second-straight championship.

After the game, three captains from the Mustangs squad shared their postgame thoughts with the NYSPHSAA. That includes senior forward Cece Powell, who scored nine goals during her team’s state playoff run.

Cincinnatus defeated Section VII’s Chazy, 1-0, in the Class D girls soccer state title game on Sunday.

Hamilton was crowned co-champion on Sunday afternoon at Middletown High School after tying 4-4 with Section V’s Fillmore in the Class D state final. It was the program’s sixth all-time and second consecutive banner.

The Emerald Knights did not have a chance to be interviewed by the NYSPHSAA after their game.

Three other Section III soccer teams reached the final weekend of the state tournament.

Baldwinsville boys fell in a grueling state semifinal match to eventual Class AAA champion Commack (XI) on Saturday.

New Hartford’s perennial powerhouse girls squad was bested by Aquinas Institute, 2-1, in the Class A state semifinals at Cortland High School on Saturday.

Cicero-North Syracuse girls fell short of their first state title in program history with a loss to Section XI’s Commack in the Class AAA state title game at Homer High School on Sunday.
