When ICE came for Jeremy, Syracuse’s underground railroad helped him escape: Rick Reina noticed unmarked SUVs outside his Liverpool home Tuesday morning. What followed was a frantic 48-hour scramble: neighbors forming a human chain, activists running decoy cars, and elected officials showing up to help. The Syracuse community pulled off what felt like an underground rescue: getting Jeremy safely to Canada and onto a one-way flight to France.
